A Calendar of Tales Review

This past February 4th, Neil Gaiman and Blackberry kicked off the joint #KeepMoving venture. For twelve hours, Gaiman released writing prompts through his Twitter account, themed for the twelve months of the year, with the intent of writing Calendar of Tales, a collection of new original stories based on his favorite responses. And now those stories are here!

Review

A collection of short stories, ‘A Calendar of Tales’ is a collaboration between Neil Gaiman, Blackberry, and selected individuals from Twitter who answered prompt questions.

What makes this anthology interesting is that it showcases how flexible and creative Neil Gaiman is as a writer. Reading the novel felt as though he wrote it with so much ease; considering writing with just random answers for questions is no easy feat. Unless, of course, if said questions have been the basis all along for the story themselves and the answers were incorporated only after.

Written with great precision, the stories did not feel abrupt despite their shortness. Their randomness makes them unique and fun to read. Each gives you a certain level of excitement of what might come next,

Curious to try Neil Gaiman’s writing style out without investing much aside from your time? This book is perfect just for that! You will surely find something that resonates with you in this wonderful collection of short stories.
