Review

An copy of the book has been sent by the author in exchange for an honest review.

“Friends come and go depending on where you are in life, but it’s important to focus on the good memories.

Continuing where ‘First Came Forever’ ended, ‘Forever Disguised’ follows the story of Erica as she struggles with the loss of her partner. Tyler as he chooses what he’s willing to do for love. And Francesca with her ploys and actions to take what she believes is hers.

I adore the decision of using a multiple perspective point-of-view with this book. It gave us a different kind of texture to the story and, at the same time, provided a much needed foundation for the characters.

Grappling with the book’s choice of romantic trope was difficult for me. Despite the good placement of catalyst, I still find it to be a struggle. The book’s trajectory is towards a love triangle though there were proper pillar as to why it has to be—to be fair, their age alone can be an understandable situation for mulling over indecision and confusion when it comes to love.

The plot is simple and more of a leisurely read than anything else. I am amazed by how well Annie Woods wrote her novels. There is a consistency with ease and you can feel the relaxed rhythm of her writing—making the book light to read. However, I did have some issues with transitions and accuracy of words. There were points in the story where there was abrupt changes in character point-of-view that distorts the structure and flow of the book. Similarly, there were words that are misspelled or felt out of place that I had to do a double-take. It isn’t much of a problem, but it can cause a little bit of confusion.

Character-wise, I am impressed by the parameters that miss Woods had laid out for them. There is a sort of complexity in them especially with how they must really digest their situation and act accordingly. I have to be honest, I harbored some annoyance with Tyler, most particularly at the beginning of the story where he cannot seem to keep his hands to himself. Additionally, I wanted more from Tamara and Sam whom we’re introduced at the beginning of Erica’s college life. It feels as though with how much they were present, they lack a strong background. I’m really looking to having more of them in the next book. Aside from that, I did enjoy all of them.

I think ‘Forever Disguised’ is an exciting sequel with so much to offer. Despite all of the tension the book has, it also provided a much needed relaxing sort of peace. The affections and sincerity of the characters felt so raw and emotional that you cannot not cheer for them. Most importantly, the fluidity of the writing made it such a breeze to read.
