Review

Reading graphic novels have always been quite an interesting experience. There are moments of confusion when you aren’t sure whether you should focus on the speech bubbles and words, or put all your attention to the drawing. Of course, it is a mixture of both, but sometimes when you’re having so much fun with the way the story is going, you simply take the art panels in with a quick glimpse and never truly appreciating the efforts that was put in the drawing.

Light by Rob Cham is a totally different sort of experience. I have never read a graphic novel with no words on it and purely art. It was refreshing and highly entertaining to go through the book and create your own dialogue in your head. Appreciating the drawing, the playfulness with shading, and how you’re able to imagine what the character(s) could possibly be saying. It was new and truly enjoyable.

Each moment I spent browsing through this graphic novel was beautiful. I love how it made me look back on the art and stare at them. I feel like the story on its own is lacking, but the theme of adventure and the friendship and relationship that you build from it was completely adorable. It was lovely reading this book!
