The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse Review

Enter the world of Charlie's four unlikely friends, discover their story and their most important life lessons. The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse have been shared millions of times online - perhaps you've seen them? They've also been recreated by children in schools and hung on hospital walls. They sometimes even appear on lamp posts and on cafe and bookshop windows. Perhaps you saw the boy and mole on the Comic Relief T-shirt, Love Wins?

Here, you will find them together in this book of Charlie's most-loved drawings, adventuring into the Wild and exploring the thoughts and feelings that unite us all.

“I’m so small.” said the mole.

“Yes” said the boy.

“but you make a huge difference.”

It has been an awful while since I’ve last stumbled upon a book that was gut-wrenchingly painful yet heart-warmingly wholesome, and thought provoking all at the same time. It’s quite difficult to believe how something so simple could be complicated as well, but that is simply how The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse was. It was so simple yet it has a grand impact in how you’ll see life.

A huge part of me sees this work as something that will be of a frequent re-read as Le Petit Prince. They will never compare to one another but both of them are just immensely beautiful and unforgettable. I am especially in-love with the illustration and how it felt like one of those traditional Japanese drawings. I believe that it hugely affected how much I loved the book as well as I have such a weak spot for this brush-stroke kind of artistic style.

I adore every moment I’ve spent with this book and I see myself getting a physical copy of it–not just for personal consumption but as well as a gift for friends and loved ones that have yet to discover the story themselves. Reading it to myself again and reminding me to love who I am more, and that there are people out there who cares for me and that that is enough. Perhaps even read this beautiful story to my future children. Let them know that you don’t need a million people to love, you only really need those that truly matter.
