Again Again Review

From the New York Times bestselling author of We Were Liars and Genuine Fraud comes a complex novel about acceptance, forgiveness, self-discovery, and possibility, as a teenage girl attempts to regain some sense of normalcy in her life after a family crisis and a broken heart.

If you could live your life again, what would you do differently?

After a near-fatal family catastrophe and an unexpected romantic upheaval, Adelaide Buchwald finds herself catapulted into a summer of wild possibility, during which she will fall in and out of love a thousand times—while finally confronting the secrets she keeps, her ideas about love, and the weird grandiosity of the human mind.

A raw, funny story that will surprise you over and over, Again Again gives us an indelible heroine grappling with the terrible and wonderful problem of loving other people.

Review

An e-arc of the book has been provided by the publisher, Penguin Random House International, in exchange for an honest review.

Can we just talk about how relatable Adelaide’s problems are? Not just her relationship problems, but her mental and family issues. Not taking into consideration the way the story is, the entire novel is just beautiful, raw, and extremely realistic.

E. Lockhart never really fails to deliver with her writing style. The way this novel is written is poetic; it’s like listening to an open-mic poetry contest, consuming every words the poet say, digesting and feeling bits and pieces of information and just feeling it.

What I did not like about this book is how it was executed. I think that the pacing was curious and the concept is interesting, but there is a weirdly difficult cadence with the story; although I think that is what makes this book unique and gorgeous.

Simple but complicated, this book will destroy you. Ready yourself for the raw emotions that this book will put you through and strengthen your mind for all the things to come. Again Again is not just about a family, it’s about staying true to yourself and being brave. It reminds us that we shouldn’t bottle our problems up, else we become a ticking time bomb ready to explode any second of the day.
