Felicity: (Some) Happy Stories Review

WE ALL JUST WANT TO BE HAPPY.

Ten voices.

Ten narratives.

Ten short stories about the search for happiness.

Review

An e-arc of the book has been provided by the author, Divina Gracia, in exchange for an honest review.

There is so much and so little to say about this collection of short stories.

Yes. I enjoyed all of them, but I did have my favourite/s.

Let’s first begin with the simplicity and straight-forwardness of these stories. I adore the way wherein there is a note of depth in each of them yet, at the same time, they are also what they are telling. They are what they are, in face value, but they hold within them another story that anyone can find themselves in.

The writing felt so effortlessly done—as if the author just closed her eyes and poured her heart into it without even thinking what the result would be. It was undemanding that I did not notice how I flew threw within the pages in just a blink of an eye.

Felicity is something that I can see myself picking up again. Maybe read a story a day to find that there will always be some light, even the teeny tiniest, within the darkest of times. It’s hopeful and heartful that it was complicated to pick something out of these stories that I loved most.

In light of picking a favourite (and partly to quench the author’s curious mind—that is, if she reads this review or even curious about my fave), I can say that the one that really cling to mind was Anthony. I found myself within the confines of this story. I hear Kevin. I see Kevin. And I weep with Kevin. I may not have found that person who will make me do what Kevin did in the last portion of the story—and I am hopeful to find that person still—but I saw myself immediately in him the moment I realize his epistolary telling of story.
