Review
An e-copy of the book has been provided by the publisher, Tokyo Pop — Love x Love, in exchange for an honest review.
Let us begin this review with a disclaimer that I did not notice the condom on the book’s cover. I was so blinded by the “cute” moment that the two characters have together that I completely overlooked the details of the cover. Do you look closely at book covers? ‘Cos apparently, I don’t.
The story follows Kyouhei, a teenager born in the countryside who moved to Tokyo for his study and has stumbled upon an unusual neighbour that will soon collide with him in a weird and weirder moment.
The plot of the book is pretty straightforward; however, the weirdness begins when the two characters clashes together and for some reason our main character is either too kind, or just stupid for not taking the harassments he takes seriously. Their characterization is pretty mediocre and complete insane if you really think about it. I wasn’t able to focus much on the story as I was too alarmed by the situations the main character was facing.
I can confirm that the artistic style and paneling of the manga was good, if not for the slow ruination of the plot. It isn’t much of a shocker to see plenty of sex scenes within a manga that is slapped with the yaoi./ boy’s love genre. It may fall into a category of a weird fetish, but it seems to me like this manga flowed to well into that fetish side that such an innocent main character tolerates lewd activities done to him.
Overall, I find the manga to be interesting yet it fell apart in many of its aspects — having a weirdly tolerant main character, sex driven side-characters, and a too flat storyline that will not hold a readers grip.
