Review

“I am here to identify the truth and uphold the law. There was a time when I thought society has the same goals.”

Volume 3 was a unique introduction to Kento Nanami — his personality and how his power works.

I like the good balance of how funny the beginning of the volume was and the transition to something serious and darker. Regardless of that, I am impressed with Akutami-sensei’s ability to inject humour in parts of his story without it being off-putting.

Nanami’s refusal to work overtime and the connection his power has with this restriction is adorable as well. I love this dynamic incorporation of his magic toward his identity. It really gave a concrete grasp on how he might work as a character and the possibility of interaction he will provide together with the other cast of the story.

“Does the soul dwell in the body? Or is the body built on the soul?”

Additionally, I adore the conversation between Junpei and Mahito with the value of being yourself. It’s an interesting discussion that’ll make you wonder about how these villains became and the challenges they went through to have such a distinct vision that isn’t so wrong if you put yourself in their shoes.

This was such a sad arc toward the story, but it is a good insight towards some of the characters of the story.
