Top 5 Wednesday: Surprising Reads

Honestly, part of the reason why I haven't done any of the prompts this month was because I keep forgetting that there even was a prompt that existed.

Luckily, I was taking a relax walk inside my head and remembered it was waiting to be done. So here it is. :)

Hell Followed With Us

The thing about this is that it is sort of random. A friend and I were discussing about books in Netgalley and he told me that I might like this book and that it was an instant-approval request. So despite my supposed not-going-to-accept-arcs-this-year policy, I actually requested it.

It was a shocker, how much I enjoyed this book. The relativity and importance of the topic of discussion surely is profound; add the brilliant violence of the fantastical element of this world—that also contributed in the effectiveness of its metaphor—Hell Followed With Us definite shocked me.

The House Plant

Okay. So, hear me out.

A book with a plant as its main character?

If that alone isn’t surprising to you… well, I don’t know what is.

But yes, this book was well written and Ray’s imaginative work of a house plant definitely squeezed its way inside my heart.

The Sword of Kaigen

A book recommended to me by various people, I did have quite an expectation with this one considering…

Thankfully, The Sword of Kaigen exceeded that expectation and more.

Talk to Me

Probably a controversial pick as I had quite the challenge with reading this book.

Despite that, however, I genuinely enjoyed this story and its depiction of our reality with the ever present social media and its toxicity. Its destructiveness taking great effect on so many people even with how truly useful and convenient it was for all of us.

What If It’s Us

Ah, yes, What If It’s Us.

I decided to read this book because, at a time, I was very interested with Froy Gutierrez. A friend then told me he was actually one of the two narrators for this book so I instantly picked it up. Lo and behold, this book became one of my comfort reads.

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by the lovely Lainey and Sam. If you’re interested in participating in the topics and such, make sure to visit their Goodreads group page!
